Talal Charity

The legacy of His Royal Highness Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud – may God have mercy on him – continues to resonate with social institutions. He recognized the importance of an initiative by families of children with Down syndrome and a group of individuals interested in the rehabilitation and training of people with special needs, particularly children with Down syndrome. He provided invaluable support in bringing this dream to fruition, establishing the Charitable Society for Education and Rehabilitation. Founded in 1999, the society aimed to provide diverse training programs and support the entire family in caring for their child with Down syndrome. With his direct support, His Highness adopted the society and served as its honorary president. Initially operating under the name “Saudi Charitable Society for Education and Rehabilitation,” it was officially registered in 2002 by the Ministry of Social Affairs as the Charitable Society for Down Syndrome, license number (197). He thus supported the establishment of the first specialized society dedicated to providing educational and rehabilitative services for individuals with Down syndrome, contributing to their integration into society.

Based on his deep belief that every child has the right to a dignified life and opportunities for growth and learning, His Highness – may God have mercy on him – was keen to provide the necessary material and human resources, as well as moral support. This enabled the association to build a comprehensive system of specialized programs, including early intervention, education and training, and preparing children for social integration and independence, making DISCA a leading model in serving individuals with Down syndrome throughout the Kingdom.

Following in his footsteps – may God have mercy on him – the Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz Charitable Foundation continues its support and cooperation with the Down Syndrome Charitable Association (DISCA). The two parties are currently working on developing joint cooperation programs for 2026, through providing support that enhances the continuity of rehabilitation services for DISCA’s most vulnerable children.
